beadxels in motion

my audio visual will use these kind of beads which i call Beadxels but commonly known world-wide as Perler Beads..

for my 1st assignment of Media Innovation 1, i chose to use Beadxels as my main element to make an audio visual about me promoting my skills to my potential employers.. the reason i use Beadxels is coz i got the inspiration to make a stop motion video from the DEADLINE video made by Bang-yao Liu.. i've never done a stop motion video before so i wna try and do something new..

another reason for me to use Beadxels in my audio visual is coz i wna show people what i can do in real life.. often, people always give fake promises and end up NOT working the way they told the employers they would. so, by showing what i can do, maybe people will see my true potential as a designer and hire me :) this project is strictly for assignment purposes btw..

the third reason i wna use Beadxels is coz i like em! i can make pixel art out of em and it's a perfect material to use for stop motion video..

so, here are my inspirations for my audio visual.. thanx to everyone who made these videos :)

yang ni sronok! i like the sound.. it totally fits the whole concept.. although it's using legos, i'm gna put it on my inspiration section in design journal for MI anyway..

i think i wna use Chiptune music for my assignment.. but...... i dunno if i can...

an alternative way to use beads without the peg boards which kept them arranged nicely.. but without the boards, i can do so much more.. n use even more types of beads.. but i don't i want to use other beads..

someone already made motion graphic using the Perler Beads for MTv Transistor in Denmark.. it looks quite impressive.. it's clean and digital-like.. i hope i can make an audio visual as clean, vibrant and bright as this one..

transparent screens

transparent screen photo by alexlop

here's an idea: take a photo of what's at the back of your monitor screen and put it as a wallpaper! your monitor will magically look as if it's transparent.. got the idea from Apartment Therapy Unplggd. i tink i've seen Maher did this n post it somewhere on his blog.. now it's your turn to do it!

a Flickr user, w00kie has gathered lots of photos of these transparent screen sent to him by other users.. here's some of which i like. you can see more of these transparent screens photos on w00kie's Flickr.

now, i'm still addicted to their soundtrack.. they remake some of the famous Beatles songs which makes my ears and heart bloom whenever i play em.. these are some of the scenes and songs from the movie that i like.. i specially adore the first one.. i dedicate them all to Ammar :)

hehe.. i like the part that instead of using a guy, they used a girl singing this song letting people know that she likes another girl..

this part is totally creative! who would've thought that splashed strawberries can represent dead soldiers.. brilliant!

this part makes me burst with joy..

n this part makes me cry and smile and the same time.. i only felt that way for few movies..

i urge you all to download the song for While My Guitar Gently Weeps.. you wont stop playing it for sure.. n sedikit sebanyak korg akan rase lagu tu pasal korg..

n this is my dad's all-time favourite.. all legends in 1 great song.. haa~ my Dad said Eric Clapton is the greatest Blues guitar player coz of this song..

TransMickey

haha! cute x? looks like he's wearing diapers, isn't it? guess Mickey's a fan of Transformers.. the price of this toy is $40..

Quoted from TechnoBob:
I never knew something could look so innocently badass. Surely the world is spinning toward an explosive end now that we’ve seen a merger between Mickey Mouse and the Transformers. TransMickey (not the figure’s name, and thank goodness for that) comes in two flavors: the above, and a more monochromatic version, both of which will be out in the next few months in Japan.

it's today :(

he's going off.. i wish him the best..

n today is our 3rd year 2 months anniversary.. n i never get to see him go coz of the stupid H1N1 flu that's goin around..

xpela.. nnt kte chat k :')

i juz wish his college wouldn't be like in Transformers.. Sam got into some pretty horny university.. hope Ammar wouldn't have to live like that in Aus..

someone might have a big secret too

Red Rabbit from Egmont Mayer on Vimeo.

found this short animated story by Egmont Mayer at Scene 360. the rabbit is huuugee!! i wna hug it!! Scene 360 is an online film and arts magazine. we've got new source for cool artistic videos now!

Quoted from Egmont Mayer's Vimeo:
A man lives alone in a small apartment. The little contact he had with other people has dropped to zero since the rabbit appeared. Every attempt to get the rabbit out of his apartment has failed and since he is not sure whether or not pets are allowed in the building, he does not let anybody enter his apartment.

TOY

TOY Website

there's some fascinating illustrations and design by independent artists at TOY. though they have various artists, but i found out that their illustrations have something in common and they have that quality that shows they are under the same brand..

Quoted form TOY:
Toy is an idea that unites independent artists for commissioned projects. Working collaboratively to apply a range of styles across product, motion, print and screen.

Creative Times: People Power by Deanna Halsall - i specially like this one.. the suitcase looks like it's belonging to a Superman, only the Superman is a regular person but with lots of creative knowledge..

Reflet by Jean Julien - i've always love Jean Julien's works coz he made absolutely creative use of papers in advertisements.. his work is simple, but think of when he's making the artwork, that has to be tedious..

Fantastique RGB by Jean Julien - cute! dea maen tampal je manilla card kt background tu but it still look lovely..

J'adore Francoise by Jiro Bevis - again i pick sumtin that has the 80s look..

Stay In by Jiro Bevis - out of all the illustrators, Jiro Bevis have interesting illustrations that really suit the tagline he made for each work..

Bye Bye by Chris Gray - hihi.. a big tough man has a soft spot after all..

Stereo Dance by Chris Martin - wiggly dance! the drawing doesn't have to move in order to show movement.. the texture of the beard makes me wiggle already..

PSP Go Cam by Nicolas Tual - i like the characters drawing in this illustration..

a dress a year

that's what Sheena Matheiken is wearing for the whole of this year! she's doing it to raise money for Akanksha Foundation and had wear a black dress since May this year.

Quoted from Uniform Project:
Starting May 2009, I have pledged to wear one dress for one year as an exercise in sustainable fashion. Here’s how it works: There are 7 identical dresses, one for each day of the week. Every day I will reinvent the dress with layers, accessories and all kinds of accouterments, the majority of which will be vintage, hand-made, or hand-me-down goodies. Think of it as wearing a daily uniform with enough creative license to make it look like I just crawled out of the Marquis de Sade's boudoir.

can you imagine that? she's being soo brave and creative by only wearing a single-styled dress for year and working it with accessories and other clothes.. you can also participate in this project by donating anything in your closet to her. maybe she'll wear what you gave her and it'll appear on Uniform Project's Website! i wish i can do that.. i have lots of unused clothes..

The Dress - from Uniform Project
How do you design a dress that can be worn all year around? The mastermind behind the uniform dress is my friend and designer, Eliza Starbuck. We took inspiration from one of my staple dresses, improving upon the shape and fit to add on some seasonal versatility. The dress is designed so it can be worn both ways, front and back, and also as an open tunic. It’s made from a durable, breathable cotton, good for New York summers and good for layering in cooler seasons. With deep hidden pockets to appease my deep aversion for carrying purses.

so far, these are my favourite looks from her:

3rd May - Sunday Best (love those Laredo lace up boots! i wna get one..)

6th May- Tangled Up (those fabric necklace is a very nice touch)

19th May - Candy Stripper meets Minnie Mouse (there's nothing stripper-ish about this.. i think of it as what late 60's people would wear to a dance)

20th May - Dolled up for St. Vincent's ( i like the way she wear another dress inside the black one)

26th May - Tough gal in Spring Rompers (a very unique look from her.. instead of making the dress the main thing, she wear it as a jacket)

4th June - One of these days I'll ride my bike (this is soo New York!)

13th June - Charlotte Green (the dress is actually a long skirt! inspiring!)

i hate coke but..

their brand has a really strong brand identity.. and their designers for advertisements, packaging or whatever should be highly credited for creating the Coke Culture in this world.. take a look at this video and be in awe at Turner Duckworth's design solution for the leading soft drink company.

YACKFOU'S menu
if the picture load slow, just go to YACKFOU'S Shop page

Hulala Artsy's releasing the Comot Itu Chomel Syangat T-shirt.. i was looking for some ideas to advertise it.. that's when i found this rollover menu from YACKFOU. it's from their Shop page.. YACKFOU is a clothing label from Berlin-Friedrichshain. as for the label name, you understand la kan..

i like the rollover pictures of the menu.. first, they wear nothing.. when you hover, the pictures represent the menu's name..i like the idea for the Sweater & Hoodies section.. it's as if they're saying "if you're cold, wear our sweaters!" and that guy on the Sales section really have the right face and act to represent the word 'Sales'.. cool lah! :D

YACKFOU Website

what can you do with 6000 pieces of post-its?

well, Bang-yao Liu used 'em to make a creative stop-motion video.. i got some ideas on Beadxels shapes after i watch this.. not to mention ideas for my first MI assignment too..

Quoted from Visual Culture:
Dead line is an ambitious senior project by Bang-yao Liu, a student at Savannah College of Art and Design. Liu used over 6,000 Post-It notes to complete this life size pixel animation full of finely executed iconography.

find out how he made it at Visual Culture

how do you view that glass?

Visual Culture said "We’re sure you’ll be able to find yourself somewhere along the continuum" by using this glass point of view:

click the image to read those small words..

this is certainly another way to view that glass rather than just saying you view the glass half full or half empty.. which one are you? ;)

typical banners & posters

i hate to see badly printed banners & poster around my country.. which is always happening around me! Jonathan Cutrell from Fuel Your Creativity clearly stated what i want to tell those who made awful banners & buntings which is the 3 Deadly Sins of Print Design..

i know maybe most of those people don't really read blogs and don't study Art & Design.. they design their own buntings from MS Word perhaps, but if you happen to know some of them, please tell them about this post.. it's for their own sake.. if you want to advertise something and sell it, might as well you create a great poster and stop wasting your money printing pixelated ones.. it's good to stop humiliating yourself too..

the 3 Deadly Sins of Print Design are:
  • Designing in RGB Colour Mode - So let’s say your Macbook Pro and CS4 are speaking Spanish, but your printer is speaking English. What basically happens: the printer listens, hears the Spanish, and tries its best to interpret it. Now, despite the fact that your printer may have taken AP Spanish in high school, it still doesn’t know every word in the dictionario. (from Fuel Your Creativity)
  • Forgetting to use Rich Black - this mistake is so silly that it would be unforgivable if you do it..

  • Using wrong resolution - urgh! i hate this! it's soo annoying when people do this.. it represent a company that is lack of quality..

you can read for the complete examples, tutorials and reasons why you need to avoid doing these silly mistakes at Fuel Your Creativity..

you'll remember these faces

i came across Webdesigner Depot's post on 100+ Portraits of Iconic People yesterday. i guess their portraits makes them famous too apart from all the genius things they've done. some of them are not famous because of what they're doing, instead, they're famous coz brilliant photographers took splendid portrait photos out of them.

i really recommend you to read through all the famous people's brief history coz it will help you to get to know them better, better than the knowledge of the reasons you thought they're famous for. like me, for instance, at first i thought the astronaut below is Neil Armstrong, but actually, Neil was the one who took this picture of Buzz Aldrin..

Buzz Aldrin - This image was captured in 1969, the day that the Eagle lunar lander made the first touchdown on the moon, by Neil Armstrong of fellow astronaut Buzz Aldrin. Date: 1969. Photographer: Neil Armstrong. (you can see Neil on Buzz's helmet.. oh, now i know where Buzz Lightyear got his name from..)

and i didn't know why this guy's on walls as graffiti and everyone's bags and t-shirts untill i read why:

Che Guevara - Ernesto “Che” Guevara Havannassa at the La Coubre Memorial Service in 1960. Che traveled around Latin America as a young medical student and came to the conclusion that the only solution for the poverty that he saw was world revolution. He was instrumental in Castro’s takeover of Cuba and was later assassinated by Bolivian forces who were assisted by the CIA. Date: 1960. Photographer: Alberto Korda.

and i didn't know how Andy Warhol actually look like! all these while, i only look at his pop-art works, not his face, so i don't actually know this guy.. and this is him:

Andy Warhol - Warhol was a prolific photographer and artist who produced many works of art, photos, and films. Warhol took many self-portraits throughout his life, as well as creating pop-culture portraits of famous people. This one is housed in the Tate in London. Date: 1986. Photographer: Andy Warhol. (he looks psycho isn't he?? this picture is soo 80's)

and my favourite and most memorable portraits on that list are:

John Lennon - The lead singer for the Beatles enjoyed a successful solo career after the Beatles disbanded before his untimely assassination. He campaigned for the end of the Vietnam War and for peace between the US and Russia during the Cold War. Date: Unknown. Photographer: Andy Warhol (this picture really portray John's calmness, like a person in 70's would look like when they're wasted on weed.. not that i know if he took any..)

Orson Welles - Welles worked extensively in film, theatre, television and radio. His best known feat is his radio broadcast of H.G. Wells’ “War of the Worlds” that was so realistic that audiences actually believed it was happening. Date: 1937. Photographer: Carl Van Vechten. (i felt inspired the chaos he brings to the world only through a realistic radio play..)

Audrey Hepburn - This press shot from Breakfast at Tiffany’s is probably the most famous photo of Audrey Hepburn. Hepburn was plucked from a ballet lineup to play the leading role in Gigi on Broadway in 1951. She became only the third actor to be paid $1 million for her role in My Fair Lady. Date: 1961. Photographer: John Kobal. (her face is timeless.. i absalutely adore her clothes!!)

James Dean - James Dean is considered to be one of the greatest actors of all time. His handsome good looks were only enhanced by an unmistakable screen presence in such films as “Giant” and “A Rebel Without a Cause”. Date: 1955. Photographer: Publicity shot for Schlitz Playhouse of Stars. (whatever he's doing, he'll always look cool.. even when he's crying in his movies)

Marilyn Monroe - Marilyn Monroe was a screen actress who died under mysterious circumstances that were officially ruled as a suicide. Widely considered to be one of the most beautiful actresses ever, Monroe was married to a few husbands, including baseball player Joe DiMaggio, and is widely rumoured to have had an affair with JFK during his presidency.
This was a scene from the movie “The Seven Year Itch”. The location shot in front of the Trans-Lux theatre in New York City had to be redone in the studio due to excessive crowd noise, but it yielded this picture. Date: 1954. Photographer: Matty Zimmerman. (i felt sorry for her coz she wasted such a great opportunity..)

Elvis Presley - Elvis Presley popularized a more sexually charged style of music called “Rock and Roll” that was the delight of younger people of his generation and the bane of parents who credited his style of music with demoralizing a generation. (demoralizing or not, Elvis revolutionized the music industry!)

Heath Ledger - Ledger was a film actor that died of a drug overdose in 2008, shortly after completing his iconic role as The Joker in “The Dark Knight”. This insightful painted portrait of Heath Ledger won the People’s Choice Archibald Prize for 2008. The artist and Ledger were friends for a number of years. Date: 2008. Artist: Vincent Fantauzzo. (i really like this painting.. you should go and look for what the painting means..)

cherries & robots

image from Dark Roasted Blend

this picture makes me wna design a t-shirt with cherries and robots.. not really a perfect combination, but i like the fact that an organic God's creation like cherries being compared to the 'cubicness' of the robots.. my concept is the same as the answer to a question how can a girl be involve with a guy.. a girl and a guy have totally opposite minds, personality and everything else.. but, a girl and a guy can be together coz it's the way human nature is supposed to be..

ps: picture a person who likes a candy.. but that person can't eat that candy coz the candy will make he/she have diabetes.. and so that person got emo n throw the candy to a wall, making it brake to pieces.. but, the question is, why do the person have to brake the candy like that? the candy didn't do anything wrong.. it's just a candy.. on the other hand, that person just HAVE TO DEAL WITH THE FACT THAT HE/SHE CAN'T EAT THE CANDY! braking the candy into pieces wouldn't help solving any problem.. it's just.. making the candy cry... wasted... hurt. HURT!
